July is festival time across Birmingham and the Black Country with a range of events, including major music festivals, outdoor film festivals and a whole host of events taking place in the Black Country to celebrate Black Country Day. Here's our tips on where to go and how to get there is July.
Wireless festival is coming to Birmingham to bring you the latest artists to party with at this summers essential open-air music experience. The official line up for 2014 includes Kayne West, Pharell Williams and Ellie Goulding. The festivals location at Perry Park next to Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium allows for great bus links from Birmingham city centre. Click here for our guide to getting to Wireless
5th – 6th July – Birmingham Mela – Victoria park
This is the UK’s biggest Asian festival, Birmingham Mela will take place on 5th & 6th July in Victoria park – Smethwick. Celebrating south Asian culture, with headline acts from the music scene performing over the weekend. Complete with live music, funfair and stalls. Bus routes to get you to Victoria park Birmingham include; 53, 80, 83, 87, 89.
Brindley Place is hosting it’s free outdoor film festival which is taking place for one week between 7th & 13th July in Central Square, showing some of Birmingham’s favourite films. A total of nine films will be showcased throughout the week with the theme being films produced in the 80’s or 90’s.
The Mostly Jazz, Funk & Soul Festival returns with three days of open air music, with contemporary jazz, funk and soul music. With acts including Courtney Pine and Mavis Staples. Our 1 service from (Broad St) and our 50 service (from Moor St) are great options to take you to and from the festival.
Why not join in with the official celebrations and fly the flag for the Black Country. The main stage event starts at 12noon, with various musical acts and entertainment, a poet’s corner and a host of Black Country themed stalls with authentic & traditional foods on sale. You can hop on bus routes 1, 81, 82 & 126 to take you to the Black Country.
The Colmore Food Festival is back once again to showcase the superb food and drink offered in Birmingham’s business quarter. The festival will include live cookery demonstrations from top chefs in the district, live music and an outdoor theatre. Use our large network of buses to get you to the city centre.
This event is now in its 24th year of hosting a fine selection of over 500 classic cars and transport shows. Entry also includes an auto jumble, trade stands and a childrens fun fair. The show starts at 10:30am at the Walsall Arboretum. Bus routes 6, 7, 7A, 10 & 10a can take you a short walk from the show.
